If you have something nice to say, SAY IT!
That's the lesson I learned today.

At work I like to compliment the customers, only when I mean it though. So I will compliment someone's nails, tie, shirt, purse, shoes, etc. a handful of times a shift. It's just something I do, I do it outside of work as well but obviously I see the most people at work so that's where I do it most. Most of the time I get a thanks, sometimes a smile and a thanks, and sometimes people's faces brighten and I know I made their day. Today something different happened though.

I was walking to the register and saw the full view of a customer's dress. It was a pretty blue cotton/jersey sundress. It looked absolutely comfortable yet very stylish. So I told her, "I love your dress!" She thanked me and the cashier that was helping her agreed with me and I told her that it looked very stylish but comfortable, perfect for today and she said to me, "You have made my day. I am here getting an ankle brace for my daughter because she twisted her ankle on our way to a volleyball tournament, and she drove all the way from texas yesterday because we found out 3 days ago my husband was diagnosed with ALS and we're having a benefit for him. It's been a very long 3 days and your compliment has been the best thing that's happened to me. So thank you very much and I hope you have an amazing day knowing that you made my day."

I. Was. Shocked. I told her that I hope things get better for her and when she left I had to go to register 2 to help out some customers but the whole time I was holding back tears. You never know what a compliment will do for a person. So if you have something nice to say, say it. Don't let it wait for another time or day. You don't know what it will do for a person but it can only be good.
