So...my Friday started at 3am. When my daughter came into my bedroom whining. I was irritated with her when she turned on the light...and then she whined again & proceeded to vomit on my bed.
*sigh*
So after a change of sheets & a few more failed attempts to get her to vomit in the toilet & not just wherever she was standing/sitting, I got her pillow & blanket & a few towels & made her a cozy lil bed on the bathroom floor. Got her a drink of water, asked her if she wanted to brush her teeth. She was shivering so the bathroom made double sense as it is a tiny room with a normal sized heating vent & close to the furnace..possibly the warmest room in the condo. She fell asleep quickly. I left my door open & tried to catch a few more winks before my alarm went off (i was sure i was not going to be able to go to work but i still needed to call them & tell them that).
About an hour later she came in my room & asked if she could sleep with me. I grabbed a wastebasket & told her she could, if she kept her face turned away from me (barf breath).
About an hour later my alarm went off. I reached over & brushed her hair out of her face & noticed she was burning up. 100.6 with ear thermometer (she usually runs about 97.4). So i managed to coax her into a dose of tylenol & a glass of water. which is when i realized why she came to my bed. she had woken up & vomitted water all over her lil bed in the bathroom.
I let her stay in my bed until she told me she was going to go lay down on the couch. So i put on PBS kids & gave her a cold glass of water. She didn't throw up after that. But the fever was a constant all day. So she got a few popsicles out of it, but i could see it wasn't as exciting as usual. By the time her dad came home (took her to his place as he has a working washer & dryer & i had a lot of pukey stuff to wash), she seemed to be feeling better even with the fever. She was laughing & smiling weakly & downed 2 pouches of apple juice in less than a minute. She was asking me for potato chips!! She refused to eat saltines. We compromised with a few goldfish.
Hands down the WORST thing about being a parent...puke. I STILL...almost 24 hrs later...cannot get that smell out of my nose.
I thought I did a good job of not acting like it was a big deal & just going into functional mommy mode. But apparently my face must have betrayed me as later as we were snuggled up together on the couch she turned to me & said "momma i am really sorry i threw up on your bed". AWE! She got a lot of snuggles & kisses & hugs & reassurances for that. I love my kid. She is the most amazing, frustrating, funny & frightening person I know. Even more humbling is trying to wrap my head around the concept that I MADE THAT. I told her a few days ago she was growing too fast & needed to stop & she responded "but i can't momma, you keep feeding me!" LOL
*sigh*
