I was at work yesterday, in my office listening to the radio as I typed away, the programme reported on the latest spate of shootings in Manchester, specifically the Longsight area. As part of the report the reporter interviewed a man who stated that Manchester does NOT have a high gun crime rate, and it is only a minority who hold a gun and even fewer who will actually use one.
Firstly, a high ranking official, who is in place to aid city development and a peaceful society in denial, can not be a good thing. One only has to review the figures and without qualifications in maths or politics you can see it's higher than other areas of the U.K also in my opinion, which I think will be shared by other residents of not only Manchester but the country and perhaps the world, that one gun crime is high enough.
Secondly, it's all well and good crying out for the police to act but one question I want to pose is 'how?' how can Police officers armed with a baton, cuffs, oh and a torch effectively fight gun crime, won't they just get shot! Perhaps my argument is such a simple one and that's why it's been overlooked.
It was then announced later in the report that Prime Minister is backing proposals for stronger jail sentences for people as young as seventeen to be jailed if caught with an illegally held firearm.
So to continue, thirdly, how many rapists, murderers and paedophiles be released to be able to accommodate these offenders, but that's another blog in it's self.
Fourthly, gang members aged thirteen have been involved in gun crime, how can we make a decision as to a seventeen year old being locked up in accordance with Adult jail sentences, which aren't that good anyway, between a thirteen year old. They are both criminals, they both are aware what guns can do - hence the reason they are carrying them and I say fuck what their families think or feel! Did their child think of the families of their victim before they shot them, no they didn't and it's for that reason they should NOT be allowed to walk among fellow law-abiding citizens.
Perhaps jail would act as a better deterrent if we used them like they're meant to be used; as a punishment, rather than a short-stay holiday camp.
