Gonna vent. I've got this roommate and we've got some problems. It started with bills and escalated to lies. By no means am I the model of prompt bill payment. Things can get tight. And stay tight. There comes a time when one needs to organize priorities in order to foster a mutually beneficial situation. Especially while sharing an address. So it escapes me why someone would chose to spend hard earned cash on, what I would classify as, frivolous purchases, when essential utilities and cable/internet are being shut off. I guess if your name isn't on the bills why should you pay your share and allow past due balances to accrue. After all, $1000 spent on comics, $250 in video games, and $100 a month in on-demand porn must take priority over my already disheveled credit. My roommate is living the 11 year old boy's dream. According to his birth certificate he's really 25. Time to man the fuck up. We received a letter explaining that our gas has been shut off. The gas company couldn't even include the balance on the statement, so I'm assuming that's not a good sign. Last year the city passed legislature prohibiting the gas to be shut off in the colder months, due to some inconvenient deaths. So, not only is the meter running, it is apparently spinning like a propeller because of excessive heat use. How can I convey that no thermostat should ever be set to 80 degrees, ever? This is the setting that he deems fit for comfortable living. I would suggest burning his comics for a source of heat. I'm not anti-comics, just when they fuck up my credit.
Next on the list is compulsive lying. This is where I need to show the most restraint. I'm going to preface my following statements by saying this. He's not a bright individual. Arguing with him is fruitless. He has a fucked up idea of what is appropriate. I appreciate the same dead baby, Christopher Reeve, Terry Schiavo jokes as much as the next guy, but sometimes the line can be crossed. For instance, my other roommate is a good guy and genuinely kind. He had the extreme misfortune of losing his mother some years ago. He was then raised by his brother. In the spirit of sharing a home, he decided to open up to, and explain his past loss to my other roommate. I was not present for this. The problematic roommate then confided that his mother was also deceased. One problem. His mother is very much alive. Can you feel the karma shifting? I just found this out last night. You could understand how my trust might be shaken. So I start to think about something he said last week. I came home from work and saw that he was not at his night shift. I ask why he wasn't at work and he said his mother had a stroke last week and he spent the morning visiting her. I felt terrible for him because my mother had also recently suffered a stroke. It's an awful ordeal and I would wish it on no one. In light of what I recently heard about him saying that his mother was dead, I began to question if the stroke was also a fabrication. I hope that his mother is alright and if it is true that she has a quick recovery. If he is lying, it's curtains. I hate the fact that I have to call a tragedy into question. Am I out of line?
