I openned a store on Etsy.com this weekend. That give me partial credit on new year's resolution #4. I don't think I'm going to have much luck selling the two jewelry boxes I've got on there now. I shipped something to LA a while ago and put some effort into finding inexpensive shipping, but some how the other people on Etsy have me beaten there, badly. Shipping in Canada from Canada is more expensive then from Canada to the states. $37 to ship 3 pounds, the other thing that bothers me it that on the online estimate thing there's no way to put sizes on it, that has to be a factor. So at the moment I have $37 shipping on a $60 dollar box to someone in Canada. I'm going to make up some leather battery holsters soon and put them on there. It should be cheaper for them as they will fit in the shipping bag option, and they are smaller and lighter.
Another thing I'm working on the with etsy stuff is, when to tell my parents. I don't want to because I don't talk about my sewing and I want to be able to put clothes on Etsy. I want to make womens things that are tight, revealing, too short, or what ever and I don't want to have to discuss them with family. I don't want to have to explain how I know the woman modeling them. I was going to make two stores and only tell them about the one with my wood leather and metal working and have the other one for clothing, but etsy doesn't like people having more than one store as you could mess up the positive feedback stuff that way. Some people in the etsy group here on SG posted some ideas of alternative sites, 'thecraftstore' being one of them but for the clothing catagory is has about 260 items, Etsy's clothing catagory, about 500,000 items.
I thought about delaying telling them about it until the spring when I start doing more wood work than I could explain where it was going but that would leave the little text saying the store opened 6 months before.
I do want to be able to (try and) sell clothes, even just to cover the cost of making pieces.
I just don't know.
