Copping a line from one of my favorite comedians, Larry Reeb, the theme for today is "a tip from your Uncle Lar' ".

1. If you ever open canned goods get a decent can opener. The one I have in mind is the Swing-A-Way, and runs from $6 to $8.

This might sound like a lot of money for a can opener, but the Swing-A-Way is built solidly, has good user feel (the turning handle provides a lot of torque advantage), and just works. It even has a functional bottle opener stamped onto one of the levers.

Cheap buck and a half can openers aren't worth the aggravation - they fall apart or bend into spaghetti after at most a year, but a Swing-A-Way may well outlast the original owner. In my opinion, they perform better than most cheaper electrical can openers, and outlast them as well.

Swing-A-Ways have been manufactured for more than 50 years, and deserve to stay in production as long as canned foods exist.

2. Oxygenics SkinCare shower head

Self-pressurizing by using a finned turbine wheel, flow is adjustable from 0.5 to 2.5 GPM, and it works well in low pressure installations. The guts are Delrin acetal resin so it should last a long time - it can't corrode, and naturally resists mineral scale build-up. Offered with a limited lifetime warranty.

Don't know what suggested retail prices are, but got mine from eBay for $30. Was especially impressed by the perceived flow force - I have a deep deep well pump, and can't generated much more than 40 PSI. This head is the first one I've owned that did more than dribble a pee-weak stream out at me.
