Petroleum distillate
spread thin upon flat rock
Arkansas stone.

Oil wards steel fragments
from filling it's pores, and,
destroying its utility.

Back and forth
scrape
at precise angles
honing the edge.

Too shallow, and brittle
Too abrupt, and a chisel
The right degree
and it slices and dices
better n' Ron Popeil.

It's all hype
"Showtime solid flavor injector"
What the hell is that?
Late night adinfomercial crapola

Give me a knife
Straight blade
no "three easy payments"

A piece of steel
that'll take an edge
and keep it
in faith.

The US government (that is, OUR) debt ceiling has been raised again. Our debt of $8.17 trillion (as of Jan, 2006) places the average citizen's share at about $27,000 each.

Our current mismanagement (headed by an ex-CEO with a MBA degree, no less) is insane on it's face, and unsustainable. In any rational business the guy'd be thrown out on his ass into the street.

GW Bush and Co. hands out tax cuts like candy, added $2.5 trillion dollars to the national debt since 2000, and has been a force in our infrastructure degradation. Tax cutting is a lot more fun that fiscal management, and garners more votes.

He commits our armed forces to fight and die for objectives that now appear to have been concocted by his marketing department.

He follows his "gut instincts" in pursuit of policy rather than thinking things through. This isn't necessarily bad, but not all gut instincts are created equal - and his aren't panning out so well.

I'm not sanguine on the prospects of his 'thinking things through'; it is difficult to decide whether I should laugh out loud or shudder in terror (or both) whenever reading a transcript of one of his speeches.

I'm just hoping the damage isn't irreversible.
