Shortly after the 2004 presidential election folks at the University of Michigan posted a map of the county-by-county breakdown of the 'blue state/red state' buzzword-buzzkill that has become popular in recent years.

This is way more interesting than blocking out entire states, and more informative as well.

A couple of features strike me :

1. The deepest of the deep red areas tend to be places with lower population density.

2. Two tendrils of magenta start in Georgia - one drives straight north, and the other follows the Appalachian mountain chain.

I'd love to see overlay maps for any number of other variables, including educational attainment, raw IQ scores, income level, poverty level, Federal per capita endowments, religiosity, etc, and ad infinitum.

I could be wrong, but my read on our existing political infrastructure is that its severely fucked. I troubleshoot things for a living, and don't even know where to start on this sucker.

You don't mean to say you have worn a black t-shirt with blue hair? THAT is a certain sign the devil is upon you ... smile
