i'm in pyjama pants, a sweatshirt, and nothing else at work right now, and it's great. this, of course, is because i'm working at home again today. i love it. i get up at 820 and i'm at work at 830. of course, this means that i should use a bit of time to eat some breaky, but i'll get to that. i think i'm...

The thing is, it was the name that got me. If it had been called "Joe's Special Beer", I'd have dumped it after the first sip. But "Old Peculiar"... maybe it's supposed to be like this: the chalk-tasting white sediment, the gruesome odour, the corpse-flavoured aftertaste. Maybe it's just really peculiar. Maybe it's an acquired taste. Maybe the next sip will make it all make sense. But no.

I did try a non-contaminated bottle some time later, and it was quite good. A little peculiar, as one might hope, but very palatable. Worth a try.

(No, in case you're wondering, I've never tasted a corpse... just using my imagination here... wink)

Edited to say: Actually, I am doing more or less what I thought I might do...

Also: Tori has a new album??? Excuse me while I run to the record shop...

"Lost in Translation" has already been mentioned, so...

"Mediterraneo". It's a few years old now (1992), but is a quirky classic. From the box:

"During World War II, eight Italian soldiers are sent to guard a small Greek island in the middle of the Mediterranean, but they quickly realize that there is nothing to guard! Instead, they start enjoying life on this beautiful island and some are able to realize dreams they have never told anyone about."

It's in Italian and Greek, with subtitles. The humour is a little crude in places (I thought it was hilarious... my conservative dad was a bit offended), but all good-natured. The description above leaves out a few key ideas: just after they're dropped on the island, the ship that dropped them is sunk; shortly after that their radio is broken; they're left isolated from the war, and from the outside world generally. They are supposedly on guard, but quickly become absorbed into the life of the local village. Anyway, it's good-natured, funny, a little off-beat, and insightful.

One funny thing: since I can't understand either Italian or Greek, and the subtitles are all in English, it sometimes confused me that the characters couldn't understand each other... it was all Greek to me!
_bossanova_:
Well, LaDolceVita said it all for me! Don't you just love her? Anyways, diaphanous is a delicious word and should be used more often than it is these days.

My period never feels like tendrils snaking through my abdomen; more like knives penetrating my organs! Anyways, feel better and keep being your sweet, badass self, dearie!smile

good gord...the people in my office lack so much courtesy it sucks. our receptionist is particularly bad - she's constantly just walking into my office unannounced to bug me about trivial things. i'm trying to get work done here! and my boss isn't much different. i always knock before i walk in to people's offices, but no one else seems to follow that rule. grrrrr.......

i. what's your favorite colour and type of pen to write with?
I like using Sharpies to draw with but for writing purposes nothing quiet satisfies like the blood of ones enemies.

ii. what tattoo do you crave?
The tattoo i crave the most is the international Campbell clan family crest (since i am a Campbell, makes a weird sort of sense, huh?) that i am eventually going to get put on over my heart.

iii. are you crafty? (take this question anyway you'd like)
If you mean arts and crafty then yes and well, if by crafty you also mean devious then isuppose a "hell yes" would be in order.

Hey there!

Ooo! more questions for the answering:

i. what's your favorite colour and type of pen to write with?
I love blue as a colour, but if you mean favorite pen colour
that would be good old black. A nice fine tip black felt pen.

ii. what tattoo do you crave?
I don't really crave a tatoo, but I guess if I was going to get one, it would be a Japanese character

iii. are you crafty? (take this question anyway you'd like)
Hmm.. crafty in creating knick knacks? No, not at all, I suck at it. Crafty in a cunning sense? Hmm.. probably not that either. I guess i can be, maybe I just don't realize it.

all screaming aside, things are getting better slowly. being up much too early this morning and dealing with windchills that made it feel like -43C didn't exactly make me happy this morning, but saturday and sunday were alright. saturday was spent lounging about discussing the things that had made the beginning of the year so trying and then going out for a coffee date and...

Hello right back at you, my new found friend!

I honestly don't think it possible for you to be too geeky with me. You have to realize that you're talking to someone who played original Dungeons and Dragons back when you could still buy it off of the shelves and i never stopped playing i just moved on to second edition. I, however, refuse to play third edition out of sheer principle. I hate Wizards of the Coast. Bastardfuckterds.

And i don't think you any less a good person for feeling more for your other grandmother. If you consider that to be bad then i would most likely be deplorable to you considering the fact that when my grandfather (my dads dad) passed away last year i only cried at his funeral because it reminded me of my dads passing. I hated my grandfather, he was a very hard and cruel man. He had said maybe a handfull of words to me over the entire span of my life, that and he beat my father horribly when he was young.

Well, now that i have officialy overshared i do beleive i shall move on. Later alligator!

I jumped on to see how the SG world was doing... see how some of my favourite people were hanging in after the new year and I was shocked to see the usually jovial (and inquisitive) Sylvan niether happy nor asking her string of questions. sigh. this makes me sad. Never fear... it's just a couple of days. The sun rises... the sun sets... little more than that. Hope tomorrow seems a little brighter.

Glad you like the profile pic. It was taken on Nootka Island (well, technically, a little island just off shore, but it's Nootka in the background of the picture), which is off the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC. Nice place, very isolated. I was there for a month recently, house-sitting for a friend.
