Hairy spiders migrating down unbearably hot walls does not sound overly appealing, Dave. You're obviously made of sterner stuff than I!

I recommend hoisting a cool, refreshing cocktail or two. (Or a Foster's, maybe?) smile
beezadave:
Dear, dear, dear, misguided Cybele,

the cocktail option sounds brilliant, I shall follow your advice and practice vigourously until perfected.

However, Fosters is the last resort of desert abandoned and lost travellers who can no longer produce their own urine. Which is why they sell it overseas. Should you stumble upon a Coopers sparkling or pale ale, may I recomment this traditionally, in the bottle brewed, and gastronomically orgasmic elixer and gift of the gods of hops. lovelove

Until then, may the heating and fine warming beverages in your part of the cooling world bring you luck and love!! wink

They are breathtaking Cybele, absolutely breath taking, and unlike the millions of likewise coloured beetles called 'christmas beetles', which come out (guess when shocked ), the don't fly stright into you and then pee horrid smelly stuff on you. I love those birds with a passion.

Quote of the day.

Scenario - In an old tin shed alongside the kitchen, we sit and have smoko, a bite to eat, a cuppa tea, and a smoke.

The Cook, old 'Plugga' - (no prizes how he came by that name) is possibly the worst cook in the Cooper Basin. He works in old shorts, Gasby slippers, and old ragged tee shirt (under sufferance...

One of the best parts of my day - checking to see if any of my 'friends' has posted a blog!

Yep, you might have been literally a world away, but it is a closer contact and more intimate than many face to face interactions.

I don't 'collect' friends, you are all interesting people who enrich me, so thanks to all of you.
rhanarose:
I would post a new journal post - but I love the photo that I put up - and only 6 comments - ???!!!!! WTF? I guess most of my old friends are gone from this site.............. blackeyed blush
anjave:
Yeah, I agree with you, peace.

10 1/2 hours driving today for a 1 hour lift - happiness on a stick friends!!!!!

Driving an old clapped out crane through the desert, massive sand storm in my rear vision mirrors trying to catch me, alongside the Cooper Creek which is receeding from flooding with all kinds of animals and birds around, with Mozarts Requiem Lacrimosa up really, really, (did I say...

Back in the desert today, the fires from last weeks lightning strikes are still burning, and the wind is up, smoke, sand, flies, and closed roads due to fire risk, excellent!!!!

Hope it rains soon, the vegetation which has come due to last years unseasonal rains is burning way too fast!

beezadave:
It's always the little ones who suffer in fast burns. The snakes, lizards and small mammals. If their in their burrows, the speed of the fire can go over the top ot them so quickly their unharmed, but if their out, or non burrow critters, well, it sucks.

I suspect you have very similar terrain nearby. Still, SA is very beautiful, and like us, diverse.

Home at last, spent the day relief teaching at the local high school, time to relax now. Where's the rum????love

Depends what I'm given on the day. Anything from specialist maths (differential calculus etc), to reluctant learners in which we analyse crane and rig mishaps (preferably fatal), in terms of mathematical engineering and planning failure - always get's their attention, to work ed (okish) to arts - hoplessly inadequate.

A relief teachers life is always stimulating. (Actually more exhausting than a 14 hr day in the field)

Did I say I have the best life?? Physical and mental challenge in the field, and mental gymnastics in the classroom when I get home. Life is great!blush

Rig satellite bandwidth thinner than an ultra sensitive condom, so SG is a struggle, still, nice to be back on, catch you all when I'm back in civilisation! Cheers!
