Last week was a change of scenery! From teaching the top senior Ag and Science students - to the Special Ed unit!

It was the bestestest - est week ever, although I'm damned exhausted! Doing it again next week, bugger running off to the mines or rigs to earn some real money! - these intellectually disabled kids are the best fun I've had in ages!

Dissecting eggs! Computerised microcopes (stolen from the 'normal' kids - he he! - evil laugh!), growing moulds and fungi on breads and veges and maccas (not!), checking out microscopic life in our ponds and tanks - hell yeah - this is a hoot! Stole into the school herb garden and demolished every herb bush for leaf smelling, tasting and descriptions - ok so I worked a bit, but what a blast!!!

I have a nominated science officer, communications officer, translations officer (cos my autisi-manise is a bit rusty), navigation officer, and security officer! And keepers of the ships log!

Yep - it's a blast!

To be honest I'm a bit concerned about the experts running the place, but I'm no expert so I'd better keep my thoughts to myself, but images of nurse ratchet occassionally come to mind - and I have deep covictions about dignity, respect and responsibility to the vulnerable which were a bit shaken on a couple of occassions, so I'll act on those concerns once I've selected my words precisely.

Re the above, I'll get some clarification from the gurus next week, but my crew are mine - and Scotty, it's a mighty strange piece of engineering we're lookin at here - aye!

(To be fair - the gurus are getting the most impressive results amongst the senior special ed kids I have ever seen - including long term post school employment in the real world opportunities; so perhaps I am being a bit soft and sensitive towards my younger ones. Need to think about that.)

Cheers all in SG land!
