Well, my three weeks with the 4 classes who 'broke' a teacher are almost up. As I suspected, a weakness in the fellows character left him vulnerable to personal abuse. And the abuse was profound and relentless! And complete chaos and anarchy for the rest of the year followed.
A bloody tragic waste really, brilliant scientist, government cuts research funding and give the poor bloody lab numpties 6 weeks teacher training, then send them to the toughest, least inclined student groups in the state! It's culpable professional and personal assassination in my opinion! I've seen a couple of internationally renowned researchers completely destroyed (and I mean long term destroyed) by these bloody beaurocrats in their safe little pen and people pushing, air conditioned, conference call equipped, latte serviced offices.
Come and play with me in the real world of reluctant and resistant education you cowardice beaurocratic bastards!! I'll let the little monsters eat your tongue out whilst your still conscious, and tear you and your tailored suits to peices!
With the exception of one group, who are probably pathelogically socially completely inept and impregnatable, the students are essentially decent and rational, but the ground rules have to be in concrete. Ones self respect has to be radiated with uncompromising force, and they have to have their self respect forced upon them till they believe they deserve it also. Finally if mistakes are made by the teacher, the teacher has to publicly admit they screwed up, no shame, just statement of fact, and a degree of humility.
In a couple of days I will return to peaceful 14 hour days on the rig, for a bit of a rest. (But I'll miss the little buggers!!
