I've spent much of today watching a few movies with the amazing Linda Darnell. An actress of uncommon intelligence but terrible luck, Darnell's career had lots of ups and downs, mostly downs. Alcohol, a few bad marriages and the fact that she repeatedly spurned the romantic offers of Darryl F. Zanuck saw to it that she would never become a giant star. And she died in a house fire while visiting an old assistant at age 41. Still, should could play tough as nails as good as anyone. Check her out in "Fallen Angel" or "No Way Out" sometime. She's great.
