I had 5 minutes off between jobs and so I went to Los Angels, my default vacation, to see some of my favorite people in the world. Some I haven't seen in far too long. I got to see Vivid, which made me as happy as I anticipated, and spend lots of time with Luci, to make up for the 6 years since I saw her last. I also got to meet (albeit briefly) Boomie, Bambu and some other general great people watching Zoli's amazing band. SO great!

It's funny how often I was coerced into moving to LA in my week out there. Even the WEATHER was perfect and trying to talk me into it. I spent most of my time out there hiking and being all outdoorsy and such. I was in Griffith Park on Monday and I didn't see anyone around for 127 minutes so I cut my arm off. I thought that was what you were supposed to do because of the movie. Then later I learned that the movie is called "127 HOURS"!! AND he cut his arm off for some other reason, apparently. Boy was my face red. But it was nice to be outside anyway. I just have to stop cutting things off whenever I panic.

I also refused to reset my watch, so I thought I was 3 hours late for everything all week. I do that whenever I travel outside my time zone. That makes things seem more adventurous.

My last day, before leaving, I got up at 6:30 AM. (In the morning!) To go on a hike with my friend Alicia, partly because Alicia is trying to get me over my fear of big dogs. Cause I'm slightly afeared of big dogs. Well, only ones who attack me. But they rarely tell you beforehand. Anyway, we went on a hike off Montaingate by the Getty Center. It was gorgeous. And she brought her dogs. And I cut off my arm. I really have to stop that.

But my favorite hike was with my friend Kacey in Topanga State Park. It was about an hour and a half walking very slanty up a mountain. But on top the view was incredible. You could see the ocean, the other mountains, the valley, the smog over LA, and lots and lots of In n' Out Burgers, donut shops and the rest of the stuff.

It's incredible, really, to imagine settlers trudging their way across the country in horse drawn carriages and looking out at this expanse of perfect green in front of them, where the mountain touches the valley, the land meets the sea, the sea meets the sky and the sky meets heaven, and thinking "Someday this will be filled with convenience stores and porn shops!!"

Our grandparents and great grandparents crossed oceans, built dreams from nothing, forged identities for themselves and did their best to create lives for we who came after. We drink stupidly named coffees, take pills and read about the Kardashians. How very silly. How very sad. And yet, in a strange (and small) way, how kind of wonderful. Life can be anything you want it to be, after all. And to live in a place where a dog bakery is a legitimate business means you live in a place where absolutely anything is possible.

Thanks to everyone who came out to see your humble narrator. It was a lot of fun. Sorry to those I missed (Cybil this means you!)

porphyria:
Especially after Zepp's really endearing adorable, slightly inebriated crush confession ;p, it would have been kinda fun xp. Me and Calamity had some really fun batman themed (shhh) plans but I'm not sure if it'll happen.
