I get what you're saying about elitism. I think some of the new site design was attempting to dispel some of that. No more comment counts or huge friends lists to show off. I don't know if it'll help or not, but personally I kinda miss my comment count. It wasn't very high, but it was enough to make me feel accomplished. Now I don't have as much inspiration to post... oh well.
