stand up, be heard


it's customary in this world to just fall in line
they tell you STAND UP, BE HEARD
but when actions result in something unknown or unfamilar with the course of time, you are simply told to step back in line
when declarations were made or the bill of rights
it wasn't defined what is wrong or what is right
telling the truth or merely how you feel
can get you in a world of trouble, it's just unreal
he's stupid, she's ignorant- - -politically speaking
and a hushed religion of children screaming
smarter than their parents but never will be heard
it's uncertain, uncalled for to try to stand above
so i don't have a problem with homosexuality
i have a problem with discrimination and people hushed for their beliefs
i have a problem fighting wars, with no real motive
i have a problem seeing children as mothers
i have a problem with cruelty and death and murder
can i speak of the flaws with the united states?
"no ma'am you can not, it's just in bad taste!"
can i fight for what i believe in, not what i was taught to believe?
"no child, you're far to young to choose your own feat"
you see we are told to choose our own paths
whenever we try, we're hushed---pushed into the crowd
you want us to speak out, to be heard
but only if we agree with what you make known.
we are not allowed to have our own beliefs
we are only allowed to be what you want us to be
well, i won't be the person you want
i won't stand back and just do what i'm taught
i won't believe what you want me to believe
i'll be who i want, i'll do as i please.
