I am here.

It's pretty awesome. I waded out into the gulf (they're quick to correct you if you mistakenly call it the "ocean," since it's the west-facing side) until the water was up to my waist. I could still see my feet. Later I swam out about 50 yards to a sand bar where I could touch the bottom. I could still see my feet. That's an experience I've never had before. Other than that, I'm pretty surprised at how similar Florida is to California (at least this part). It's got a lot of the same type of trees (just more of them), and many of the same stores. Only, there's 50 feet of grass between the 7-11 and the curb instead of filling every last bit of usable space with parking lot and landscaping the rest. It's less like a completely different place altogether and more like bizarro California.

I do feel guilty about being here enjoying myself while I could be volunteering, but this is the first real vacation I've had since the Thanksgiving before I joined SG, and I need it.
