More like Great News, Terrible News to be accurate. I don't really want to get into it right now, but my previous journal just didn't seem appropriate anymore, so I thought I'd update.

Ok, good news first:
I'm officially booked on a one-way 1600-mile flight to go help a very, very good friend move out here. She's driving, and I'll be keeping her company on the drive (edit: and I'll be driving a good part of the way as well). Yay for road trips.
...now the bad news:
My dad isn't doing well. As some of you know, he's been in the hospital with heart trouble since early October. Every time they try a new treatment, some other problem comes up that forces them to try something else. Now they think he may have had a fairly serious stroke in the interim. I went with my brother, mom, and ex-wife up to visit him on Sunday night, and he couldn't speak in sentences more complex than two or three words. At this point, it's more about making him comfortable as his body deteriorates than it is about hoping for some sort of miracle. It would be more crushing, I think, if not for the fact that he's had at least 4 heart attacks, and his condition has been declining for almost a decade.
So yeah, this year has been all about tremendous highs and devastating lows for me, and as the year comes to a close, that seems to be more true than ever.
Wild mood swings? Um. Yeah.
