One of the things about being someone who requires very little sleep (and gets very little sleep) on any given night is that there is very little margin of error. What I mean by that will become clear shortly.

Last night, like most nights, I said goodnight to Shalome, got back up, walked over to my computer, and started playing World of Warcraft. Usually, I'll play for a couple of hours, get tired, and go to bed. Last night, I played for a few hours, got tired, and began getting ready for bed. Part of my getting ready for bed ritual usually involves reading a chapter in a book. Currently, the book I'm reading is Neil Stephenson's Snow Crash (finally, after about a dozen people with varying interests in novels and lifestyles suggested it to me). So I sat down with my book, and read a couple chapters. I'm at the climax of the story, however, and a couple chapters turned into several, and suddenly there were birds singing and it was beginning to get light out.

At this point, I thought, "Well shit, I'd better get my ass into bed." So I jumped into bed, but by then, I was already beginning to get a little anxious about the late hour, and I lay there in bed, unable to sleep because I was anxious, and getting more anxious because I was unable to sleep. I got out of bed, realizing at that point that I was wide awake. I had only gone to bed an hour and a half later than I meant to, but that was enough to cut my sleep window dangerously short.

So now I'm up. Today should be interesting.

Update: While I originally planned on riding a wave of anxious adrenaline through the day, I ended up relaxing enough to fall asleep around 7-ish. Waking up late is worse than not getting enough sleep, and not getting enough sleep and waking up late is a brutal combo. It means that not only was I bleary and tired, but I got no breakfast and no coffee. Even worse, the resultant being late to work meant I didn't get any coffee there either. I should be getting some caffeine with lunch, but until then...blech.

OMG Snow Crash, how awesome is it? I'm sure you've already talked to a million people about it. Yeah after reading that I was like GIMMIE MORE!!! So I read Cryptonomicon, which I also really liked but it's definitely a different kind of story.

Anyway I was just about to come over and tell you that you sounded tired because of the incoherent rambling of a comment in my journal. I liked it and thank you for the compliment, but you sounded a bit out of it. AND I was right! Do I know bean or do I know bean?

Thanks hon. But I am really tired of driving up there. We'll just have to drink a lot this weekend. And find a certain dark corner?
