I would give them a call. It shows initiative and that you really want to job. Just say you are checking in to see if they have finished interviews and checking applications and if they might have an idea of when they will be making their selection and compleing the hiring process.
congrats on the part time job in the interim! I don't know if I would waste the money on bartending class. The best bet would be to find a place that's hiring and see if they will teach you. Some places are will to teach and you'll get paid rather than have to pay. Everyone that I've talked to has said it's pretty much a rip off to take classes. A good place to check out would be a resturaunt that had a bar. They tend to have extra staff and can teach during the day when the bar portion is slow rather than need someone who is good and fast right away.
