So, I went to Karaoke From Hell last night, which for those of you not in Portland, is live band karaoke.
After Elvis (the elderly impersonator who is a well known Portland street performer) wowed us all with Supicious Minds, we were treated to Whole Lotta Love, Creep, and some guy screeching out You Light Up My Life, if my memory serves. By this time, I figured the foolishness level had been set and I had consumed enough alcohol that I thought it might be a good idea for me to sing a little something. Not to mention the fact that there was a serious lack of estrogen on stage. Where were all the girls??
Well, wouldn't you know it, they didn't have my song! What am I supposed to sing if I can't sing I Touch Myself!! What kind of band can't play my signature song?? Ok, I know it's a little cliche, but it happens to be the song I want to sing after I have had a few drinks. Plus, you can do great things with a microphone stand during that song.
