Winter is coming

So I'd recommend A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin. It is book one in the series A Song of Ice and Fire. (heck go read the whole series, it isn't too bad)

It isn't original in its fantasy concepts. Nobles, peasants, bad things from the winter-lands, swords with names. But it is presented nicely with some serious grit in the story. And there are often times when things really just don't go how the reader wants them to go. (and by 'the reader' I mean me and my hopelessly romantic and childish way of looking at the world). The household that defends the north-lands has a saying "Winter is coming" (see above)

I guess I may be speaking too soon as the rumor is that it is going to get warm up here in the North East again (like tomorrow), for the current moment, it actually is cold out there. With the cold weather, I'm fighting a bout of melancholy, which will go away in the next couple of days.

The girl will email or she won't. She'll say a) let's get together b)I'm overbooked this weekend, how about a reschedule? c)it will be the gentle let down. (which is slightly better than not emailing, but has a more upfront resounding sting to it.)

The result!:

OK, I'm going to call you tonight to plan something for the weekend.
It turns out the Chuck e Cheese (Chucky Cheese?) birthday party is for
Sunday.
Have a good day,

Either way this weekend is chalk full of exciting things anyways- so the wait will find it's due resolution and proper course and I'll get over my dumbo feelings. All in all this reinforces the problem that I'm tying my mood too closely to the whims of other people and whether they accept me (and like me) vs me being happy or sad independent of their perceptions. Gotta listen more to Mr T. "Be somebody, or be somebody's fool"

Saturday: My friends are throwing a house warming "King" themed party. Eat like kings, BBQ like kings, have Elvis on the evite, eat a King Cake! I may have to wear the Burger King mask to it. I'm not sure. I do plan on picking up some Goliath Rex (47 lb rooster) wine to bring to the party. And now a brief tangent into the magic that is a King Cake.

Those wacky New Orleaners! Based on the tradition of 12th Night, (12 days after xmoose, or on Jan 6 for you mathematical wizards, or those of you who use the traditional Gregorian Calendar...) They bake a cake which has a baby inside it. (damn straight if you guessed that baby was the jizzy crizzy. you were correct!) Whoever gets the piece of cake with the baby is King for a day! And is supposed to throw the king cake party the next year. This tradition lasts from 12th Night to Mardis Graw. You could eat a king cake everyday till Fat Tuesday!

and we return to our agenda...

So Saturday is King Day. Sunday is vampire day! I'm in a monthly little geek group and we're getting together and eating food and roleplaying and hanging out into the night. Sunday was supposed to be Mattie is a drunken Hoe poker tournament day, but not enough people could make it, so instead I'm being a geek and playing dork games. And Monday is MLK day- which I have off. We need more charismatic speakers with a good message in today's politics. If you haven't listened to Obama's 2004 Democratic Convention Speech, you should. It is the same magic. The same uplifting spirit. The same magic in that speech as "I have a dream" or JFK's presidential inauguration speech. I want to believe that America isn't so bigoted as to not elect some as cool as Obama because of the color of his skin. I guess yo don't need all of America to be free of bigotry. Just 51% of the people in certain battleground states. We need to abolish how the Electoral Congress works in this country. Or just make it so that you get a percentage of the states electoral votes depending on how well you did. (so if you win by 51% you only get 51% of the state's votes.)

Heh. I'm all over the place. book review, rant about girls, uplifting self help advice, political commentary. It is all here!

I need to go get me some food.

I said brrrrrrr, it's cold out there. I said there must be some BB's in the atmosphere.

PS My friend was funny. He was like 'yeah she's a typical Taurus. You can tell by her email' That made me happy inside.
