So I just watched Blood Diamond.

Having lived in Liberia and South Africa, it was interesting getting reacquainted with certain jargon again. The pigeon English of Western Africa was close enough to hear similarities between Liberia and Sierra Leon (where most of the movie takes place). And there's a scene were a school teacher expresses "that's cool" with a particular finger snap. The only thing really missing was a genuine Liberian handshake. (they do this thing, where at the end of the handshake, there is a snap of the fingers).

I thought Leonardo DiCaprio did a good job with the South African accent. He's come a long way from the star crossed lover in that modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliette. I was incorrectly expecting Mr. Eckko to be in this movie (it had been billed as Mr Eckko vs. Gladiator's partner/the guy from Amistad) And Jennifer Connelly was exceptionally nice to watch.

Oh yeah and there was a message in the movie too. It may have been something to the effect of "just like your name on a grain of rice; you can get the name of the little Nigerian boy who died for this diamond laser etched into your diamond." Actually that wasn't the message at all. and while this is supposed to be a semi-serious post, I guess the boy-prince clown still reigns within the heart and head of BB.

I find myself thinking of diamonds now. Not in the James Bond way like some diamonds are forever-forever-forever, way. It would be nice to find a nice lady who I might want to give a diamond to. Of course I've also recently had the 'caressing a lady's stomach and wondering in my mind what it would be like if there was a baby growing in there' syndrome. Even the boy-prince grows up someday.

Ace of Cups.
Prince of Swords.

Lover of beauty and beauty of a lover.
