Friday 11th Feb 05
Planned weekend away to Echuca for the Southern 80 boat race with my boss Justine, her other half kipper and friends. Got really excited at work so wasnt in the mood to be working . Justine took her dog Doobie and Marty took his jasmine. Jen and I had been arguing on who was going to have which dog to look after for the weekend. When u been traveling around for a long time, u miss having animals around. The car journey was a few hours and I fell asleep on jennys lap in the back of the car. We arrive at Echuca and stop for some food. We take Doobie to a drive thru for some burgers. Man, can that dog drool. I had dog slobber all over me while I was trying to feed him his burgers. We set up tents, Justine, kipper, Jenny, Doobie and I are all sharing 1 tent together. We chat to some others that are camping by. I head off to bed as Im shattered and Doobie decides about 10 minutes later its his bed time too but hed not long come out of the river soaking wet. Doobie decided to sit on me while I was in my sleeping bag, thus making mine and Jennys sleeping bags soaking wet. After that, he decided to climb into Justine and kippers bed and start ruffling up her covers, trying to pull the covers apart. Not long after Justine and Jenny came to bed and realized what mischief Doobie had been up to. During the night I started doing my usual thing, talking in my sleep but Doobie thinks Im awake and comes running over for some attention, waking everyone up in the tent oops!! Apparently, I was talking about going camping, hehe!!
Saturday 12th Feb 05
Up at the crack of dawn due to Doobie and also the birds that were singing away in the trees. Watched some of the guys doing water skiing until it was my turn to get into the water. I have never water skied before so it was going to be an adventure. It was quite easy popping up out of the water but I had problems staying up or just keeping my arms straight. I had some massive wipeouts but well worth it. Jenny didnt have a got as she was freaking out about the water. It was a brown river with loads of logs floating by due to the recent storms weve had in Victoria. Shes not very good with creepy crawlies and snakes. She thought there would be loads of creatures floating/swimming about in the water bless her!! Afterwards we had breakfast and head into town. Had a few beers down a pub before heading off for the boat race. Today they only race for 20km but its from kids up to veterans water skiing off the back of a speeding speed boat. it was a really nice day, sitting by the waters edge drinking beers and watching the race go by. Afterwards we went back to our camping spot and some of the gang went back out water skiing for a few hours before the sun went down. Sat round the camp fire chatting with some other campers and playing with the dogs before hitting bed in the early hours of the morning. Yet, again I was talking in my sleep but this time about me doing some water skiing.
Sunday 13th Feb 05
Yet again up early and did a spot more water skiing before we had to pack up the tents and stuff. I was much today. I got up again on the skies and also managed to stay up for some amount of time. I went around a corner of the river and down some of the straight before crashing out. It was brilliant. Loved every minute of it. Hands and arms started to ache but was still worth it. We actually got Jenny in the water and she had a go. She had a few problems getting up. On her third attempt she got up but was in a sitting position. We shouted at her to stand up but she screamed back that she couldnt and crashed out before she had a chance to stand. It was so funny. Afterwards we packed up our stuff and headed back into town for the main boat race which was 80km today. Went to a different spot to watch the race. After a while we got in the cars and went to the starting line to watch them. It was a real eye opener watching them get up and pull these two hand behind there bums. I nearly fell of a log into the water but just managed to keep out, I had my phone and camera in my pockets. After the race had finished we headed home.
When Jenny and I got home we went for a walk around as they had a festival in St Kilda our home at the moment. Loads of drunken people around and fair rides. Got back to the apartment and had my first shower of the weekend and brushed my teeth for the first time too. Hmm sexy I hear u say.
fantastic weekend had by all. so glad to get out of town, even if only for a few days.
