I'm the CDO (that's OCD, but alphabetized, as it should be) type of person who goes through the friends list and the sent messages at the same time. If I see messages have been read, but not replied to, I delete you. But let me clarify, it isn't out of spite, or anger, and if you do end up messaging me, I'll add you back just as fast. The reason I delete people is to protect them from me. I like to message and talk to people, and when they don't reply, I send another, and another... I end up pestering them. And that's bad for everyone.
