What an awesome day today!
Mme and a bunch of friends went to this really old movie theater in Tampa called, what else, the Tampa Theater. It was built in 1927 or thereabouts. Back when people took real pride in building things like theaters. Just incredibly ornate thoughout the entire place. Really impressive.
What was so fun about this is that we went to go see a Buster Keaton movie. The Tampa Theater has this old 1,000 pipe Wurlitzer organ and a lady, Rose Rio, that has been playing it for like 70 years. The show started with some sing-a-longs where she would play the organ and lyrics to old songs were shown on the screen.
Keep in mind that this place holds like 800 people and everyone was singing their hearts out! Too funny. Then the movie came on and Rose had the original organ accompaniment to the movie. That was an awesome movie too. "The General" from 1926 or so. I've never been big on silent movies but I guess it's because I have never seen one on a big screen. It was fukking hysterical! That guy was a master of subtle comedy. Just brilliant.
I dunno. Call me a dork but that was the best $8 I have ever spent.
We all went to this great Vietnamese restaurant before the show. They had the cutest waitress there. MMmMMmMmMmmmm. Oh and really good food too.
