Today was an amazing day! It was one of those days where yu sit back and just go WOW.
The interview went really, really well. First off...telephone interviews just suck. I've done several of them now and you never really get used to them. But in a company the size of mine and the way it is spread out all over the place it is a necessary evil.
Anyways...the guy I was interviewing with I have had quite a bit of contact with over the last week. He was just hired as a manager for this group though for him it is a lateral move as he was already a manager. This is a transitional period and I needed to get him up to speed on all of the stuff we have been doing and the policies and processes by which we function. So...he knew who I was going into the interview.
He starts the interview by saying that he is going to dispense with the usual list of mandatory questions required by H.R. (human resources). He goes on to say that he has looked at the processes and activity of the group and that we are well-organized and streamlined. Very little will need to be done after the transition. He said it was due to very good supervision of the team by yours truly. He had spoken to various people in out company on several levels of authority from management to VP level and that everyone had great things to say about me, that I had many fans in the company, and that I had very high name recognition. We spoke about various aspects of what I would be able to expect from the supervisor position, the new process and teams that they were going to put into place...blah blah blah. He didn't come right out and say I had the job but he kept referring to my duties and what I would be doing in a month, two months and then stop himself.."umm..providing you get the job of course" as an afterthought.
I dunno...I have another interview either Friday or Monday with the Director of the division. She is a huge fan of mine and has said many favorable things about me and this job. We'll see.
The job will be a challenge and huge boost in recognition if I can pull it off successfully. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am.
I look back to where I was 3 years ago today...living in Atlanta, living with one of the Impotent Sea Snakes, drinking a liter of whiskey a day, shooting dope, smoking crack and, unknowingly, about to see the rest of my miserable existence come crashing down around me.
Sobriety and a solid belief in God fukkin rocks!!
