So I just finished reading "The Golden Compass". I must say, Harrpy Potter doesnt even hold a candle compared to the "His Dark Materials" Trilogy. Though I may be speaking too soon as I have only read the first book and I have two more to go go. However I think the reason I like the Pullman's work more is that he created some wonderful characters that have many facets to their personalities. Lyra is a strong willed young girl with a no nonsense attitude about the dangers she will face. Throughout her journey in TGC she comes across many dangers. She makes choices and see's them through. She makes for a wonderful role-model in my oppinion. Whereas Harry Potter is far too much of a "Billy Everykid" . I guess this is Rowling's way of making him more relatable to his readers. It seems that nearly every character has a real-life counterpart in your own life you could compare to. And I guess that's what makes the book series so successful. But to me it just feels like a lack of effort.

First Stan Winston, and now George Carlin. God I am depressed.
I've heard a lot about The Golden Compass, but I have yet to read it. So many books, so little time.
