Today, I met the director/toured a massage school that's been at the top of my list to check out in the area. It's the first school I've checked out so far and now can't imagine any of the other schools meeting their standards and feeling as good a fit for me as this one does. It actually makes me excited to go even though the program I'll doing, if I choose them, doesn't start until June.

What I like about this school:

*The director (who looks to be in his late 20's or no more than early 30's) was sooo nice and funny and he's also one of the core instructors.

*Small classes... 10 students max (the big corporation school has 32 students per class).

*Sometimes more than 1 instructor teaching at once.

*The instructors aren't just massage therapist but specialize in other areas of body work or medicine (physical therapists, naturopathic doctors, acupuncturist, etc) or at the very least have some kind of extra oomph to them so they have a broader base of knowledge to share than your average massage therapist/instructor.

*Very small and quaint school that basically consists of a wide entry way that leads to a bathroom, closet, and nook where water and such is located... on one end is an office and on the other end is a room about the size of your average bedroom as the classroom. This it. Teeny tiny and cozy.

*My favorite co-op natural market/store is on the same block and their deli/prepared foods always has something gluten-free vegan friendly.

*It's only a mile from the a beach on the Western most tip of West Seattle so I can go watch the sunsets after class and study while I wait for traffic to lighten up before my drive home.

*Free parking in the neighborhood around the corner!

*The school covers 1 visit per month to the student clinic at a local alternative medicine school that I adore and hope to study at someday (hopefully for midwifery). The student clinic is where the advanced students are the ones giving the care. So I can go get a free acupuncture session or naturopathic visit once a month (minus labs or diagnostic fees, I'd have to cover those, but the visit itself would be free). Really handy since I'm losing my health insurance in March and I still have issues (lymph node and whatnot) to figure out and take care of.

*Tutoring easily available.

*They're all about helping the students, figuring things out, and making things work whether it's learning or physical disabilities, loan payments, or letting me sit in on the weekday program's Friday classes even though I would be doing the weekend program since they offer something on Fridays that I'm interested in that's not available to the weekend program due to time limits.

*Their curriculum just seems exceptional.

*A 6 hour human cadaver dissection lab/workshop is part of the curriculum! *happy dance*

*Everything about the school just has a really great vibe in my opinion.

I'm really excited to have found this place and I'm debating on if I even want to bother checking out other schools since I'm so impressed by this one. I probably will, but like I said, I have a hard time believing any of the other schools will impress me as much as this one.

On another note, it seems the boy is having a hard time sticking to this "taking some time for himself" thing we agreed on just last week. He's already suggesting seeing me this weekend tongue Silly boys.
