Man am I happy for the week to be over.
I was not enjoying working for the family I got this week.
1. They have a nanny-cam and it's very uncomfortable to be watched. Do not want.
2. Kid's got jet lag from India so I've had to adjust his sleep schedule this week (he's 12 months old).
3. The whole family has gotten sick this week (probably flu), so I'm trying to avoid getting sick too.
4. They have literally ONE children's book in their house, and it's not even a good book. How am I supposed to keep him entertained? I picked up a bunch of books last night at the library for today because I couldn't go another day without anything to do with him. Books and walks are kind of my way of passing time with kids this young... and they didn't want me taking him outside cause it's cold, so walks were not an option.
5. The parents prolong their leaving which makes the kid cry even more and it's frustrating for me and hard on the kid. And half the days that I've been there, a parent has been home, elsewhere in the house, so I had to deal with the kid cry again when the parent came into the room and left again. The dad finally got a clue yesterday when I rushed out of the room (when I heard him coming) with a wide-eyed "please don't let him see you" look on my face when I saw him for a split second as I passed by. The kid fortunately didn't see him.
6. I'm just not comfortable in that house.
At least it was just for this week. Though they asked me if I'm available on Monday too. I'm debating on having my boss tell them that I'm already booked when they do send in the formal request or just put up with them for another day for the sake of the kid (instead of making him adjust to another new person) which is what I did today (I was originally supposed to be with them till Thurs only).
As for the 1 book that they actually had for him, I found it pretty inappropriate for a child.
It was a first words book about "People around me". There was a page for the hospital, a page for the garage, a page for sports, a page for the grocery and... a page for the jail. Let me remind you that this is a "First Words" book. The pistol and bullets are 2 of the things labeled on the page. The book was printed in India... it's very interesting to see what other cultures consider appropriate to teach young children.
Of course, I just had to take pictures of the jail pages...

Oh, and I thought the doctor in the hospital page looked a little bit like Conan O'Brian, so I ended up calling him Conan O'Brian instead of "doctor" when I pointed at him.
ugh, i don't like your job this week, either. why do they need a nanny-cam if they're home half the day?
that book is awesome. i want one.
