I admire and wish I was Hannibal Lecter.
Not the eating people, the artistic talent, the medical degree, the memory palace, the exquisite taste and the ability to make people swallow their own tongues.
Thomas Harris fucked up in Hannibal, however. In trying to sketch out that Hannibal's tastes are, he didn't consult with the right people, and just namedropped shit that was expensive. Kinda the white boy version of fashioning a giant gold ring that says MONEY.
I used to hang out with ultra-rich people, and I look good in a five thousand dollar Italian suit. I don't care for the politics and bullshit at that level, so I bowed out. But suffice it to say a five star Parisian meal with money as no object is frigging heavenly and the only thing I miss.
I'd still like the memory palace and the artistic skill.
And the knowledge of medicine.
But I can find the same delight in the perfect Andouille sausage hot out of the fryer at some backwoods pit wrapped in greasy newspaper. And I far prefer my beaten up Harley Davidson Shovelhead to any Bentley.
