Well I had a nasty shock when I got back from the dentist last week. Apparently we had thought that our tax bill was going to be about $3k. Its been that way for a number of years. I was shocked when my wife told me that we owed .gov $14k & the state $6k. 
I had thought that I had about $350 in the bank, but discovered that in fact I had -$360 because my wife had made a balance transfer & thought it was from a different account. 
So we're trying to see what we can cut from the credit cards to lessen our bills. Right now the cellphones, cable/internet, alarm monitoring & gym are on one card. I think I'll deep six the gym membership. We haven't gone in three years.
I have to start thinking about getting my airline tickets for the flight back to Massachusetts so that I can have my new crowns fitted. The Passat also needs a new catalytic converter... Sometimes I just want to scream.
