Well that was different...
At about 10:30 this morning I was on the phone with the quietest person in our Camp Hill branch trying to get some problem invoices figured out. All of a sudden there's a lot of noise going on in the cubicle beside me and Kat is bawling. My attention is split between that and Bill on the phone, so I'm missing bits of what he's saying and catching bits of what she's saying. It quiets down and I get off the phone and turn around to get up and find out what happened. Zach invites me and a couple other people to go smoke with him and we talked about what had happened.
Background: Kat is about 7 months pregnant by Seth and they are friends with a married couple, Kendra and John. Kendra is 4 months pregnant.
Story: Kat wasn't feeling well this morning and came in late. She got in around 9:30 and then about an hour later Seth called her. They had gone out with John and Kendra the night before and the boys were drinking. John had left and driven drunk. Seth was calling to tell Kat that John had never made it home. He had a wreck and died last night, and now that people had found out about it, military police were on their way to Kendra's house to tell her, but Kat knew Kendra wouldn't be at her house she would be at work. Kat got hysterical and was trying to leave to beat the MPs to Kendra because she thought the shock would be less coming from a friend and she didn't want Kendra to have a miscarriage when she found out. Karen (a coworker) wouldn't let Kat leave because she was crying and might have an accident. So Zach jumped into action and got Kat's good friend Tara to drive Kat to where Kendra works.
Monday is going to be awkward.
