My husband and I decided to divorce today. We were sitting down to a late lunch at a restaurant down the street when the subject came up. It started with a little joke about him moving back to New Mexico for work. But it wasn't really a joke, for either of us.

We've had talks before about separating but this one was different. We actually have a plan this time and have been saying things like we will keep in contact and I will miss you. While discussing this there was laughter and tears but mostly relief.

The hardest part is deciding who Gertie, our beloved dog, is going to live with. I made the decision and now I can't look too long at her without crying. Joe will take her with him. Joe deserves her.

Tomorrow I am riding my motorcycle for a visit with my mom in Western, NY. It's around 430 miles, so it will be my longest ride yet. I can really relax up there and my mom is a blast to hang out with. Dad, brother, and nephew are driving out west to Yosemite so it's just us girls. There is somebody that I am going to miss terribly but he needs time too. We've had a very exhausting week.
