MY GOOFY TID BIT FOR TODAY
During the summer I crew on a log canoe. I know you may ask "What the f*ck is a log canoe?" Well, it's a sailboat that runs an average of 35 feet in length. It has 2 masts (the sticks that the sails go on for those of you not of the nautical variety) and they are VERY narrow. So narrow in fact that in order to keep the canoe from capsizing (or tipping over) that 12 foot boards are suspended over the side of the canoe for crew members (or boardmen) to scoot up and down on their butts as needed for wieght. On the Eastern shore of Maryland this is actually quite popular. There are about six regattas (boat races) every summer held by different yacht clubs all over the Eastern shore.
Many of you might say "That sounds like some preppy bullshit to me." but it's actually a fucking huge adrenaline rush!
I either stick to 2 jobs. 1) tending the jib (the little sail in the front) or 2) I get to scoot my ass up and down those boaards every time the boat turns. That's my favorite job. You're sitting about six or seven feet over the water with nothing to hold on to while the boat is moving. It's so much fun.
The canoe I sail on is the "Silver Heel". She's owned by my great-uncle who has money coming out of his ass. She was built around 1908 and was originally used as a work boat. I have pics of her.
This was her originally
This is her now
I don't know why I did this. I think I was bored.
