ok with the exception of the begining of this story the rest takes place in fall 1998
OK so the other day my brother Matt was watching Tom and Jerry, and like there often is there was a bit with a Mouse Trap. And for some reason it reminded me of something that happened back in high school.
Senior year. I'm around 18 and I have a major crush on this girl in my french two class named Heather. We were always in the back talking and stuff. One day she came in crying. Over the previous weekend she cleaned her room, and in doing so she had to pick up a pile of clean laundry and put it away. Well anyway in the middle of the pile was a mouse that had suffocated in her clothes. And it upset her so.
So I go home and tell my brother Chris all about it. He and I get the great idea to buy this girl mouse traps.
We bought a couple small cheep ones at the local hardware store in Townsend.
I don't remember the next set events to well, or why he decided to put a stick of gum on the trigger mechanism of one of them and hide it so no one would realize it was a trap.
A few hours later he was going out and he needed some gum, and lo and behold there was some on the counter. He went for the stick...and well anded up yelping in slight pain and surprise.
This happened a few times through out the night. In fact it became a game to see how many times he'd fall for his own trap. I think it was three times.
A couple days later I gave Heather two of the traps (we broke the third one from over use) and either a drawing of a mouse or a toy one.
She laughed.
And we joked about it for a good long while. Even after she turned me down.
Then one day she stopped talking to me (story of my life).
But somewhere i still have a christmas card she gave me with a hand drawn mouse on it (i'm the type that collects cards given to them).
And whenever I see a mouse trap I cannot help but laugh at Chris, repeatedly.
The moral of the story?
I do have some happy memories.
