Blimey - nearly a month since I last updated this. Says it all really - far too busy for introspection and navel gazing; work has been hectic and fatherhood has been a revelation. Luckily I have weird work patterns and don't do 9-5 so I get to spend lots of time with the little 'un, and we've had some nice weather of late - so...

So I went to Live8 at the weekend; whether or not you liked the music, the emotional impact of it all was a bit overwhelming.

I know it's easy to simplify the problems in Africa and offer up obvious solutions to complex issues, but surely it's better for the entire planet that we do something & fail than not even try in the first place.

Saw The Tears last night - fantastic. Was another XFM session; sometimes the band don't appear to be enjoying them, and sometimes the crowd can't be arsed - free tickets and all - but when it all comes together it's top notch indeed. Brett & Bernard might not be seeing eye-to-eye but they tunes surpass Suede in their prime. Big thumbs up here.

Things that for once live up to up the hype:

#1 Sin City - really; the best popcorn movie in ages. I was all for just going straight back in again and starting over. The section with Dwight in Old Town is just jaw-dropping.

#2 The Magic Numbers - fantastic album; sing-a-long songs with heart and melodies. This will be the soundtrack to summer, even...

The downside of being employed on a freelance basis - saying no to work; in the back of your mind you think 'If I just do another day, then I can buy a stack of CDs or a PSP or a Lego Death Star or...' and so. Gadgets, gizmos and gubbin is great but the shine is taken off somewhat by feeling like death warmed...

Luke and Obi-Wan are eating in a Chinese restaurant.

Luke: I'm really struggling with these chopsticks...

Obi-Wan: Use the forks, Luke biggrin
tarragon:
You just know the Star Wars jokes are all going to resurface in the next few weeks.

Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker were having one of their little father and son chats. Lightsabers drawn and sparks flying. Vader pinned Luke against a bulkhead and glared into his face, "I know what you're getting for Christmas, Luke," he said, "Ohhh, yes! I know!"

Luke fought himself free and jumped to a higher platform just out of Vader's reach, "How do you know!?" Luke yelled at him, "How do you know what I'm getting for Christmas!?"

Darth Vader shot Luke an icey glare, "I felt your presents."

blackeyed biggrin
creamygoodness:

I'm going to kill the both of you.

Bloody hell - doesn't a week pass quickly when you are busy? I thought I only updated this a few days ago, and its been more than a week - whoops!

Not that I've actually done anything intresting; I've been working like a dawg and helping to get geared up for the big event (and I've discovered I have to be in work at 4am...

So after all the speculation and hoo-haa!, got to watch the Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy movie tonight.

Really enjoyed it, but it's different again to the radio and TV versions. Up until the destruction of the earth (not really giving anything away!) it's almost word-for-word the TV script, before flying off and finding it's own way.

Some dodgy SFX - Zaphod's second head;...

I want to see Bubba Ho Tep so badly...one day I will afford the dvd. I read a review of it in the Big Issue before it came out - the words 'Bruce Campbell' were enough, but when they were in front of 'plays Elvis' I knew I needed to see it, even before the mentions of mummies and JFK.
I'm seeing Hitch Hiker's Guide this weekend, lookin forward to it. I loved the books when I was younger and had the tv series on video smile Zaphod's head can't be any worse than the one in the tv series...right?
