Is it expected that people who claim to be part of an alternative community or alternative lifestyle adhere to the political view of the mass within their community? Seriously do people sit back to pick and choose their issues, to investigate every possibility and possibly forge unions between the left and right?

People clique to the word "alternative" as if it's something small and precious. An ideal that should be defended with force and shun those that they see as being the majority. Nowadays more people than those in the alternative community would like to realize are claiming to be a part of this alternative minority. Liberal, Conservative. Yet still more and more people are creating divisions between themselves on poorly researched beliefs. Leading them to have no sufficient argument or block to stand on when they are posed valid questions. Just a firm stance on shaky and blurred ground.

There aren't just two ways to lead your life. There doesn't have to be such a division between the so-called "majority" and "minority". The world is what you make it, and even if it isn't then you have the alternative of letting it affect your life or rising above the lame battle lands that are drawn in sands that are constantly changing.

I think it's time people look within themselves for the definition of who they are, what they believe and what they'll stand up for. Not who they follow. A problem I find myself running into all the time.
hypersage:
The fact that people's beliefs are poorly researched has nothing to do with how valid they are, they are beliefs if they were fully researched and proven they would be facts. That's the good thing about beliefs, you don't need to justify them, just believe them.

The divisions are there because people need to a part of something. We are no longer tribal people but that part of us is still hidden deep down. That's why football fans feel so strongly for their team and against others and also why similar people flock together.

Or I could just be talking shit, who knows? biggrin

Good points, belief probably wasn't the best word to use
