They were angry at him for ignoring their phone calls and letters demanding $17,000 - letters like the one in his mailbox that said: "We know your address and your movements. Meet our demands or face consequences "your children are getting prettier every day. Don't put them in danger." Extortion is on the rise across Colombia, spreading fear and discouraging investment.

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (AP) - The Cayman Islands government leader has sued a newspaper, alleging libel following the publication of an anonymous letter insinuating the government had awarded him a lucrative contract, the publisher said Monday.
The charges stem from a letter to the editor published Nov. 17 by Cayman Net News in which the author insinuated government leader McKeeva Bush was behind MC Restoration, a locally registered company that had been awarded a $10.7 million debris-removal contract following Hurricane Ivan.

Rebels: No Attacks on Indonesia WorkersACEH BESAR, Indonesia (AP) -
Rebels in tsunami-battered Aceh province will not attack foreign relief workers, an insurgent commander said Monday, amid a warning of an imminent terror strike in the region and a claim by Indonesia's military that guerrillas may target the aid groups.
"Our mothers, our wives, our children are victims from this tragedy," Tengku Mucksalmina told The Associated Press in a jungle camp about a two-hour drive outside Banda Aceh, the provincial capital of Aceh.

For generations, Parisians have known that the Eiffel Tower is a portal to hell, and have left unsuspecting tourists prey to Satan's sinister minions who enter our world through a secret trap door under the tower.
"People frequently say they leave the tower changed, and they do. The demons sometimes take people back down with them, but more often they suck their souls and leave the bodies to climb back down in a daze and carry out their evil missions," says Jacques Boudreau, visibly shuddering.
"Parisians have known about the portal for years. Why do you think you don't see Frenchmen up there? We'd just as soon leave the tourists to the demons, especially the Americans."
Witnesses report horrid smells and sordid noises coming from under the tower, but officials have been told to attribute it to traffic noises and poor plumbing in the tower's restaurants. Locals, however, have learned to spot afflicted tourists and avoid them at all costs.
