Well, after 11+ years with dreads I cut them off with a steak knife.
I kinda siked myself up to do it, but then I realised that I didn't have sizzors. When I found the steak knife I told myself that it wouldn't work. I started cutting through my largest dread (my sleeper) and I was telling myself it wasn't going to work. I kept saying that until I was 1/2 way through, then I was like "well I guess I REALLY am cutting them off"
The first one was hard, the second worse. As I was cutting them off I realized that I had a memory for all of them. First was my sleeper, my fatest knott, then the long pointed one, the double headed one, the ones I used to tie my hair up, the one that I would hold in my hand and rub the end with my thumb...
When I was done I said hello to the guy I hadn't seen in so long, took a bath and washed/condishoned my hair. I didn't cut them all the way out, I left little stubbs which I worked out over the next few days.
My head tingled for awhile, and the first time I ran my fingers through my hair I was "free at last!" I used to watch ppl with envy as they brushed thier hair, I wanted to feel the total satisfaction of a complete skalp massage.
Some ppl didn't recognize me, some it took a min for it to register. Some ppl like me more, some ppl like me less, and some ppl, my True friends, it makes no difference.
