A wake up call to all you on-line bankers out there.
I know this is a pretty lame first blog, but I saw something supremely fucked up at work today and thought I would send a warning to whoever actually ends up reading this. A client came into the bank I work at and told me that he had some cash taken from his account. I'm thinking its the same ole story "dumb ass doesn't cover his pin and now is paying for it". He then proceeds to tell me that some hacker got him as he was surfing the net and started copying his key strokes. Waited for him to get on to his bank website and just waited for him to enter his online i.d. and password. The customer logged off, and then the hacker went to work. The hacker logged himself into our clients profile and proceeded to change all his personal information ie. phone number, address, and stuff like that. He then waited a day for the changes to take effect and then started to wire transfer around a thousand dollars a day to a buddy across the province. When our tech guys caught wind of this they called the client. Oh wait, no they didn't. They were speaking to the hacker who changed the phone number to his own. The hacker said he was fully aware of the transfers and wished to be left alone to do his banking. He then transferred another $3000.00 dollars over the next three days. Now our client is on the hook for over $4000.00.
Long story short, If you do any online banking, you better have one fucking good virus protection or else you will end up like the poor guy I talked to today.
