I attended a low-key birthday party tonight at a friend's super-cute studio apartment. It's the biggest studio in the world, as it has a full living room, kitchen, and this little tiny room by the kitchen that houses her bed and a dresser. She also has a balcony that has a lovely view of the cemetary across the street. It had been awhile since I'd been over, and I'd forgotten just how fucking charming her place is.

My gift to her was burned music, as I'm poor and she loves music but doesn't have much. It felt nice to play the role of music expert in her eyes again. It's not like I need to feel important or adored or anything like that; it's just that I used to be the friend who would drag her out to shows a couple of times a week, who would burn her 10 CDs at a time of music I was genuinely excited about, who would turn her on to many artists she'd never heard of. It's difficult to maintain that position when you are dating someone who knows even more unknown artists and bands than you do, and if that isn't enough, he has a brother who could kick anyone's ass in the game of "Who the Hell is This?"

I gave her a random assortment, in case you were wondering. TV on the Radio, Metric, Notwist, The New Year, Bedhead, Stan McMahon Band, Ride, and others that I'm not remembering now.

Iron & Wine is coming in a few weeks. Who wants to buy me a ticket/get me on the list so I can gaze in adoring wonder at the simplicity that is Sam Beam & Co.? biggrin

I slept a little too well last night. In fact, I don't think I'd be awake now if that big truck hadn't just parked in front of my apartment with it's engine on. So much for a productive last day before vacation.
