What a great weekend. In the time since I last updated, I got to meet EnergyChannel's wee one, his 5-year old son Elliot, for the first time. He is possibly the most adorable kid ever, although given my lack of exposure to kids, I did feel a bit out of my element. Overall it went well though.
After Elliot left on Friday, we both had the weekend to relax and decompress. We started on Friday with a show at the Crystal with four awesome Portland bands, The Minders, The Swords Project, The Thermals, and Quasi. All were quite good, although as usual, I can only handle the Swords Project in small doses, so we went downstairs for most of their set. No fault of their music, it's just the kind of overdramatic orchestral stuff that doesn't have a lot of staying power with me. It was great seeing the Thermals again. They have a few new songs, Hutch has let his hair grow all of an inch, Kathy rocks as usual, and they played "Everything Thermals"!
They don't tend to play that one because it was written back when they had four people in the band, and now they're down to three, so the line about coming to you in four shades of purple doesn't fit as well. The Minders were great as well, played a lot of old stuff that I didn't recognize, but EnergyChannel enjoyed it quite a bit. By the time Quasi hit the stage, we were pretty beat, so we stayed for a few songs, then took off.
After blissfully sleeping in on Saturday, we proceeded to laze about and nurse EnergyChannel's rather unexpected hangover. The evening brought a delicious dinner at Il Piatto, an Italian restaurant a few blocks from my house. Wow, I had forgotten how good food can be. That place is really fucking good.
After dinner, we decided to hit another show, where EnergyChannel's friend's band Ma Ford was playing. Unfortunately, our dinner ran late, so we missed them, but we still got to hang out with friends and suffer through a set by Stars of Track and Field. I realized the headliners were the Turn-Ons, who I hadn't seen since Bumbershoot 2002, but we left before they came on, as there was some party in a warehouse in NW that people wanted to go to. The party was disappointing, from my point of view, since I didn't know anyone, and the place was packed with scenesters dancing to 80s music. I know my stats say that thing about me being so hipster it hurts. It's definitely sarcasm. The hipster quotient was just out of control at that party, so we left after a bit.
Sunday was spent doing nothing and watching many episodes of "The Wire." Awesome show.
Now it's Monday. I want my weekend back. I want to be cuddling with my man again. Poo.
