Ah, Friday. How I love thee. Friday morning, I love thee less than Friday after 5, but what can ya do?
We went to the Gall Ball at Dante's last night, a fundraiser for John Chandler, who needs to have gall bladder surgery and has no insurance. Back in the days of the Rocket music magazine around these parts, he was its leader. It was about half and half in terms of sucky bands and great bands. I can't even remember the sucky ones, but the great ones were the Punk Group, a two-man act with a drum machine, guitar and bass singing at times single line songs, such as "Sleater Kinney Sucks." Novelty act, sure, but entertaining nonetheless. They should totally be signed to Dirtnap Records if they aren't already. They're right up there with the Exploding Hearts, Epoxies, Briefs, Minds, etc. in terms of musical style. The other one was the reason we attended, The Minders. They are a Portland band that has been around for years. They have that kind of Elephant 6 sound to them, and are friends of EnergyChannel. They put on a great set, a mix of old, new, and never been heard before. They're playing again on March 12 at the Crystal with Quasi, the Swords Project, and the Thermals. We will be in attendance. With the proverbial bells on.
The place was packed, so I think a good amount of money was raised for John. Here's hoping he does okay.
Yep, it's an entirely emoticon-free journal entry. Don't faint, guys.

Off to raise the collective IQ quotient on the boards...
I'm a bona fide QAF nut, due to having been a Hal Sparks nut. When I found out he was going to be in A) a new TV show, and B) about gay guys, including plenty of hot nekid man on man action I moved heaven and earth to get Showtime in time. I've missed precisely one original airing since then. I'm hopelessly addicted. And there it is, my whole sordid, guilty confession.
