Eureka, CA. The one on the coast. The other one is Yreka. That's in the mountains.

I've been wanting to update this for awhile now, but found that the longer I delayed, the less I had to say. I always think of things while I'm at work, and logging onto a site with naked ladies would be noticed and likely frowned upon. Although my boss likes the music I play, so that's better than nothing, I guess.

It's hard to believe it's already time for these holidays again. I just made our reservations at a hotel in Eureka, as we'll be there over Christmas. I suppose I should start the ritual of calling/emailing the few people I still talk to from my hometown, to see if any of them will be around. Not that any of us have time to see each other, when we're busy seeing family and making the most of the few days we're there. I suck at keeping in touch with people. It's a good thing my friends are low-maintenance.

Speaking of Eureka, I've been reading a book written by a good friend's older brother. It's called The Loss of Leon Meed by Josh Emmons. He graduated from high school the same year as my brother, and his book takes place in Eureka! It's funny because he references places that I remember from childhood, like the old Bonanza 88 store, the small-town answer to the Dollar Tree. I remember buying clothes there with my mom. Cheap, pastel and unicorn-encrusted clothing. I was quite the fan of pink and purple as a wee one. Looked fabulous with my red hair. puke

Anyway, it's a good book so far, and you should read it. I'm tickled by the local references, but he's also a great descriptive writer, kind of like Tom Robbins but without all of the preachy philosophical passages. Unless I just haven't gotten to that part yet.

We get to see Califone and Iron and Wine in a couple of weeks! Yay us. I keep missing bands I like, discovering a week later that they were here, playing some small club for little to nothing, and I kick myself. We missed the New Year by a day, Great Lake Swimmers by a week and a half. And then there's those bands that tour, but just not here. I'm looking at you, Sin Ropas. So it will be good to see not one, but two awesome bands, for the low low price of a lot, because it's at the fucking Crystal Ballroom. Ugh. Worth it, though. I'll just brush the hippies aside with my attempt at a withering look. It would work better if I had visible eyebrows, though. It's hard to grimace at someone without them.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I'll be making an apple crisp, and EnergyChannel will do green bean casserole, because we're traditional like that.

I'll try to write in this thing more often. Maybe once I start, more thoughts will flow out of me. Mental constipation, right? I need some mental fiber. Not to be confused with moral fiber, although maybe I need that too.

I hope that tour is going south, not north. If it's going north, I've probably missed it?

Oh shit, is brunch this Sunday? I will try to be there! I was bummed to miss the last one, but I had work I had to do.
