Eureka, CA. The one on the coast. The other one is Yreka. That's in the mountains.

It's always fun going to a Raveonettes show, if only for the drooling guys who wait at the front of the stage for Sharin. I think I was the only female at the front before they went on. I just didn't want to deal with another dicky Doug Fir crowd, and figured the front of the stage was the best way to avoid that. But I can't blame the dudes for drooling. That woman is hot, and I don't even like girls in that way. I'm ultra-impressed by her ability to do a whole show standing up in heels. I'm also charmed by the fact that Sune and Sharin look like they could wear each other's clothes, as they're pretty much the same size. They looked like giants next to the tiny Asian drummer from Midnight Movies. Too cute.

Speaking of Midnight Movies, they were awesome. Great opening band for the Raveonettes, and we were fully revved up by the time their set ended. People kept screaming, "Encore!" after their last song. Not bad for an opening band. They reminded me of a mix between Broadcast, Enon, and the High Violets, although I'm sure people could name a number of other artists and bands. Those were just the ones that struck me on first listen.

This was a stripped-down tour for the Raveonettes, just the two of them on stage with occasional help from the drummer from Midnight Movies. They played a lot of B-sides that I wasn't familiar with, or maybe they were brand new songs. The crowd just cheered everything they did, so it was hard to tell. They did a great slowed-down version of "Attack of the Ghostriders" and an awesome cover of Sonic Youth's "100%."

Our ears were a tad bit underwater-sounding by the end, but it was completely worth it. And thank you, Doug Fir crowd, for not being dicks last night. I even got to be some guy's hero and reach the setlist for him. That was my good deed for the day. biggrin

I'm really looking forward to that. We probably won't venture out much until I'm working again, but we're both looking forward to meeting all the Portland people. smile
