Eureka, CA. The one on the coast. The other one is Yreka. That's in the mountains.

We're off to Miami today for the fun and exciting errand of attending a funeral (RIP EnergyChannel's stepmom) frown Despite the nature of the journey, I'm doing my best to be upbeat about the trip. We get to see all three of his siblings, I get to meet the oldest sister and his dad, albeit not under the best of circumstances. I hope to be a good, solid source of support for my baby, and have as much fun as possible with his family.

We fly out around noon, and arrive there close to midnight. Yay for timezones! blackeyed But apparently it's not boiling with heat and humidity in Miami right now, so my heat-intolerant self might make it. As is typical on mornings before leaving on a trip of any kind, I'm awake way earlier than I need to be, nervous about flying, meeting more relatives, being in Miami, lost luggage, airline restrictions in this post-9/11 world, etc. I don't have a fear of flying, but I haven't been on a plane since before 9/11, so I'm just hoping they don't decide that I'm a terrorist.

I've got the player loaded with tunes and freshly charged, a copy of The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, an unopened bottle of water, and assorted unopened snackes. Hopefully our seats are next to each other, or we can shuffle once we get there. Hoping further that EnergyChannel's brother can sit next to us, as it just happens that all three of us are on the same flight. Ah, synchronicity.

We'll be back in Portland on Saturday around midnight. Sunday is recovery day, then it's back to work on Monday. I have a feeling the next five days are going to pass with lightning speed. Wish me luck!
