Eureka, CA. The one on the coast. The other one is Yreka. That's in the mountains.

I should probably update before the weekend hits and I once again have no time. We'll do this chronologically.

When last we left my journal, I was tiptoeing to work so as not to wake the nine sleeping members of Lilys and Human Television. They left town in plenty of time, and presumably had a kickass rest of their tour. Needless to say, we stayed in Friday night, as I was exhausted and EnergyChannel was a wee bit hungover.

Saturday brought an afternoon in a sundress with friends at Mt. Tabor. I discovered the joys of fruit salsa and tortilla chips, as well as how delicious vegan cupcakes can be. Thank you, Eddie and hansel, for the hospitality. wink

Saturday night was spent at the White Eagle, for a Stantastic good time. Our friend Nathan Jr. kicked things off, with some acoustic songs that sounded a bit like Leo Kottke. Next up was Counterfeit Cash, our friend Dan's Johnny Cash tribute band. Dan sounds so eerily like the man in black himself, it's.....well, eerie. I was rather blown away, and look forward to future shows with them. It's just Dan on vocals and this other guy on guitar, and they did a number of tracks off of the Folsom Prison album. Excellent.

Than, Nathan, Dan, Robbie and Stan hit the stage as the Stan McMahon Band. They were great as always, and looked like they were having a great time, which always helps. Stan got to do some acoustic stuff afterwards, but by then it was after 1:00am and Stan's musicality was losing out to drunkenness. So we split.

Sunday was again spent in recovery, sleeping in and enjoying being home. Monday was less of a shock to the system that way.

Well, one shock occurred on Monday. I got a phone call from my mother, who was traveling back from Eagle Lake with her friend Sid the day before, and a cow jumped in front of their van on the highway! Holy crap, that would be scary. The cow hit the passenger corner of the van, shattering the windshield and caving in the dash. My mom got a broken arm and other cuts and bruises, but it could have been so much worse, so I'm endlessly grateful that that was all that happened. She got to go to a tiny hospital in Fall River Mills, CA that had only three beds. The good news is that they don't think she will need surgery, as it was a clean break. The van leftovers are currently sitting on the property back at the lake, so we will get to see for ourselves next week when we leave for vacation!!! love biggrin love

But first, we have this weekend. My dad and stepmom arrive this afternoon, and EnergyChannel drives to Seattle to pick up his son tomorrow, for what looks to be the very last time! His ex is moving back to Portland in August, so he gets to be a dad more often! I'm very happy for him. I'm also very happy for me, because my good friend and his boyfriend move up from Eureka at the same time. Faithful readers probably remember all this from a few entries back.

So, things are busy. And now I must get ready for work.

Oh, one final thing. The Minders are playing the Towne Lounge tonight. So, you should go. Six bucks, dude. Can't pass that up.

Missed the Minders for an Automatic birthday fest; aren't they playing at City Hall on Wednesday?
Kinda bummer though- I want to go see Harry and the Potters Wed, and both shows (Quasi, Potters) are early. Hmm. H&tP plays up north Thursday too, but I like Acme... Hmm.
