Three shows in a week's time. All three at the Doug Fir. All three in the company of my baby and hansel. Last Thursday was TV on the Radio, who were as much fun as ever, although the tall gentleman in front of me must have taken something realllllly good, because he was flailing all over the place. He sucked up all the rhythm of those around us, and we just kind of stared at him. But the band ended with Ambulance, so all was right in the world.

Saturday was Destroyer, and although I'm not the biggest fan of their band, I totally respect them. Dan sounded appropriately quirky and quite possibly drunk, and the crowd was into it. Wacky Canadians.

Wednesday was Elf Power, who we very nearly missed because we had forgotten they were coming to town so soon. Luckily, hansel called to see what time we were leaving, and once we scrambled around getting energy and shoes, we were ready. They were, of course, incredible, and their opening band, The Instruments, comprised of two members from Elf Power, were also very good. It helps when the band members themselves are such extremely nice people. Andrew has to be one of the sweetest guys in indie rock.

Bonus experience: Chatting with Scott from the Young Fresh Fellows and the Minus 5 after the show about random crap. I love Portland for the down-to-earth people who live here.
