William Finley has passed away at 69
One of my very favorite movies is Phantom of the Paradise, and one of the images you never forget after seeing that movie is that of William Finley as The Phantom. He brought this interesting dichotomy to the character that made him slimy and sticky and just plain creepy as well as instantly likable. If asked my honest opinion I don't think most actors could have pulled off such a performance.
He would then go on to haunt my dreams with freaky as shit small parts in various De Palma flicks like Dressed to Kill, The Fury, and The Black Dahlia. But one performance stands out for giving me nightmares for about a week, and I'm not one who ever gets nightmares from movies. I mean sure, when I first watched Men Behind the Sun I couldn't fall asleep for a bit... like 10 minutes, but this gave me honest to god nightmares.
For being the man behind the man, for Bobbi, Winslow, Woton, Emil Breton, and so many others, I say thank you good sir, may you now rest in peace.
